While winter refuses to give up in this region, I have started a project to replace most of my ground throw switch stands where possible with dummy, but prototypical looking switch stands from Details West.
So far I have completed six out of the twelve needed. I plan to be able to replace the oversize Caboose Industries throws on my Shinohara and Peco switches, whose points “snap” into place. I will not however be able to replace them on the Atlas switches. At least I’ll give most of the layout an even more prototypical look. The photo above shows two of the completed stands.
These two targets are painted for the yard and siding switches, as I understand from reading a 1956 NYC timetable that NYC used yellow and white for these, while using red and green for main line tracks…
I have repainted these two switch stands to a brown color, and have 5 totally completed. Photos soon on the layout…
