Railfan day on the Hitop…

Today, a friend and I were out to catch some action on the Hitop branch. We were informed the Morris Fork turn was out on the branch proper, so we headed up the back roads to catch him. As the train slowly twists, turns, and climbs, we were able to easily get ahead of the turn at the top of the climb where the siding splits off the main going into the truck dump and hardware and farm supply.

While my friend dropped off and caught the caboose coming through the western switch, I proceeded up to the parking area for the Morris Fork hardware and farm supply where I caught the turn pulling in. Several shots were taken from the hillside above the hardware lot.

We especially lucked out as power for the turn was an ex-NYC GP9 #7466 and GP9B 3839. We stayed and watched the action, then followed the turn all the way back to Dickinson yard before having an early dinner at Sam & Mickey’s grill.
