Recently we went down to the Secondary to catch some action. We rolled into Dickinson yard just in time to catch the day pickup headed eastbound with empties for Lady Dunn coal preparation plant (as proclaimed in large signage on their building) at Cannelton.
Also in the train were gons of scrap for Allied’s Electro-Met division at Alloy, a relatively large complex along the banks of the Kanawha, just this side of DB Tower and connection with the old Virginian Railway. Also in the train bringing up the rear were loaded hoppers of coal for the boiler house there.
Speaking of the old Virginian, we lucked out later after chasing the day pickup to find an old Virginian hopper picked up off the N&W interchange sitting in Dickinson yard. A very good day chasing trains….
