This week on the Hitop….

Another hot week here temperature wise, so working on projects inside. Most recent project is to finally change the number boards with the use of decals on one of my GP7 units.

This unit is my Bachmann GP7 with a sound value DCC decoder. The unit was factory painted as Pennsylvania 8809, but was repainted and renumbered last year I believe it was. Until today the unit still had 8809 in its number boards.

Today, I started removing the original number boards by wetting down the boards with a water/alcohol mix, then scraping off the numbers with a needle file. After this was done and cleaned up, I applied grimy black paint to the boards with a micro brush and let these dry. Finally, I came along with a steel grey Pan Pastel and tried to blend the grimy black in with the weathering on the hood of the locomotive, plus dirtied up the PC emblems.

I’ll finish the preparation Saturday by spraying the boards with matte gloss, apply the new numbers, then seal with a flat coat. Photos below:
